Hormones

Understanding the Endocrine System

There is no better place to start than the endocrine system when it comes to balancing hormones. This system is primarily responsible for controlling and regulating hormones, and ensuring that the body functions with unity and balance.

What Are Hormones?

Hormones are chemicals that enter the bloodstream from cells within your endocrine glands. Once hormones have been released, they travel to specific destinations and bind to receptors which are located on the surface of your cells. The hormones then begin to send messages to other parts of the body.

There are two main types of hormones. The first type is made from amino acids including peptides, amines, and proteins. The second type is made up of lipids such as steroids, which are created from cholesterol, testosterone, estrogen, and cortisol.

Functions of Hormones

Hormones send messages that are received by “receptors” all over the body. These receptors “translate” the message and set the motion of the body to respond and do its job. The endocrine system is a unified whole, working to regulate hormone levels and control how much of each hormone is circulating within the body at any given time. An imbalance of any hormone wreaks havoc on the body.

For example, unbalanced serotonin or cortisol can result in negative consequences to sleep cycles, sexual development, metabolism, and satiation. Irregular and imbalanced hormonal states often present themselves through a multitude of symptoms. Examples include, infertility, irregular periods, weight fluctuations, anxiety, chronic fatigue, insomnia, low libido, and digestive issues.

Find Balance Naturally

Those with hormonal imbalances typically look to synthetic hormone replacement therapies, birth control pills, and insulin injections. These efforts are made to rebalance hormones and further regulate the function of the endocrine system.
Many “solutions” to hormonal problems, such as prescription drugs, result in numerous side effects.
The good news is there are ways to balance your hormones naturally. We start with an in-depth consultation where we listen to your case and do a full examination. We will also provide special testing to help us figure out the best approach to customizing a hormone balancing program. Contact us today to schedule your consultation.
